Blues Ensemble for Instrumentalists with Michael Occhipinti

New this year!
This is the instrumental companion course to Sing The Blues. Vocalists and instrumentalists will receive separate instruction at the start of the week and merge to perform as a group at week's end. This joint group will a focus on repertoire that includes saxophones, brass, electric guitar, bass, drums, piano, harmonica and vocals and on the music found on the Chess and Stax labels and by artists such as Albert King, B.B King, Etta James, Louis Jordan and Koko Taylor.

It will also touch on the music of more recent blues artists including Robert Cray, Bonnie Raitt, and Susan Tedeschi.

Is this class for you?

This class is open to drummers, brass and woodwind players who can read simple horn lines, and guitarists/bassist/keyboards who are comfortable following simple chord progressions such as F7 Bb7 C7. You should be willing to try soloing using the 5-note pentatonic scale, which will be discussed in class.
